  Animated Sequel To Mortal Kombat’s Scorpion Film To Release This Summer

  Battle of the Realms will bring together much of the original cast and creative team from Scorpion’s Revenge.

  

  Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge is getting a sequel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the animated film is titled Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms, and it’s expected to be released later this summer.

  Battle of the Realms will bring together much of the original cast and creative team from Scorpion’s Revenge. In terms of cast members, Joel McHale will return as the voice of Johnny Cage, Jennifer Carpenter as Sonya Blade, Jordan Rodrigues as Liu Kang, and Patrick Seitz as Scorpion, among others. As for the filmmakers, Ethan Spaulding will once again take the lead as director, Jeremy Adams as screenwriter, Jim Krieg and Rick Morales as producers, Sam Register as executive producer, and Ed Boon as creative consultant. There will also be some new cast members this time around, including?Matthew Mercer as Stryker & Smoke, Bayardo De Murguia as Sub-Zero/Kuai Liang, Matt Yang King as Kung Lao, and more.

  The Mortal Kombat?video game first launched in 1992 and has since made its mark on more than one generation. Since its release, it has become one of the most successful fighting game franchises of all time and has seen various sequels and spin-offs, including games, films, comic books, and a card game. Although its first film adaptation was released in 1995, more recently it has returned to the spotlight, with the newest release being the 2021 live-action film Mortal Kombat. Although fans were initially excited to hear that the film would remain faithful to its violent source material with an R rating, it was met with polarizing reviews, even inspiring a 1995 vs 2021 movie meme showdown on the internet.

  On the other hand, the animated film Scorpion’s Revenge had an overall positive reception, exceeding expectations for many fans. News of an animated sequel to Scorpion’s Revenge, then, is welcome and timely for the franchise. Although not much is known about the sequel’s narrative, we can only assume Battle of the Realms will pick up where Scorpion’s Revenge left off.?

  Although there is no official release date, the end of summer will arrive before we know it. More details are sure to pop up in the coming weeks and months. And in the meantime, you can always get your fix with some iconic gory fatalities in the 2021 live-action adaptation.
